Activision President, Mike Griffith, has announced that they are interested in, and thinking about entering the sports category of gaming, but with their tail between their legs as they admit that success could be difficult.

“It certainly has the characteristics of a category that would be interesting to us, but we would have to convince ourselves that we could enter successfully, accomplish leadership and that we’d have something new and different to bring to the party; right now the barriers to entry there are pretty significant, but it is certainly the size of a category that we would be interested in,” said Griffith.

EA is currently the publisher that’s doing well in the sports category, though competition is coming their way in the form of Take-Two’s 2K Sports with their range, and THQ’s WWE and UFC games. Ubisoft is also claiming some of the sports market as they have their recently announced football game, Academy Of Champions and their  Shaun White series.
